Introduction

The use of sanctions is ethical, as it is a non-violent solution that is effective and has distinct guidelines for each country involved to follow. With the intent to avoid unnecessary casualties, sanctions provide an option to resolve a problem without the use of military forces, while also defining the limitations of the sanctioned country. In cases where sanctions have been extreme, aid has been supplied to civilians, as the crippled economy hits the lower income residents the hardest. Many sanctions also involve multiple countries in order to be effective, making them a united nations decision more often than a single country taking action. This allows for increased effect, as well as a way to incorporate a checks-and-balance of the power between countries. Sanctions are an ethical mean to end a disagreement between countries that has a major impact with minimal casualties.
